Cost Comparison for Modifications for the ST's

Let’s talk about the Fiesta and Focus ST

Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta first hit the British car market in 1976, and it's been a firm favourite amongst drivers ever since. The latest model of the Fiesta is a mild hybrid, meaning that there is a smaller electric motor attached to the engine that provides a boost when accelerating. There is also a dual-clutch system to make gear changes seamless for a smoother driving experience.

Ford Focus ST

First introduced in 1998, it still packs a punch with a 2.3L engine with 276bhp. Like the latest Fiesta, the newest Focus ST has several engine options, including a 1L EcoBoost engine. This will also be a mild hybrid that'll add an extra boost to the already powerful performance.

So why would you modify them?

If the Fiesta and Focus ST are already exceptional cars, why would anyone want to modify them? Well, a common thing with vehicle manufacturers is that they will often limit the car’s performance in order to follow legal and safety regulations. It also allows them to keep their costs down and ensure that each model has a consistent set of specs.

So drivers who are interested in pushing their car to its limits, modifying it is the way to go. While you can make external modifications to your vehicle, you can also modify the internal components to increase fuel efficiency, throttle response and more.

At MCS Performance, we provide four levels of car tuning:

Performance tuning

  • With this tuning level, we’ll focus on improving your car’s BHP, torque and how long it takes to accelerate from 0-60mph.

Economy tuning

  • If fuel economy is more important to you, then we can recalibrate your vehicle ECU to ensure that your car uses less fuel without losing power.

Performance tests

  • If you’d like to know how your car performs on the road, we can use GPS to accurately log your car’s performance.

Tuning boxes

  • These can provide more temporary increases in performance as the tuning box can be fitted and removed from the car.

So, what additional modifications can I choose?

Stainless steel brake lines

These brake lines can be used to replace the rubber ones that are already fitted to the vehicle. Swapping rubber for steel means less pressure will be lost when using the brake pedal.

Available to buy from £46

Rear motor mount

If you want a smoother driving experience, this mod can be used to keep the engine from moving around inside the car. This can also increase the traction.

Available to buy from: £80-£200

Hood struts

A pretty straightforward mod allows you to efficiently perform tasks in the front of your car without worrying about the bonnet potentially falling on you.

Available to buy from: £80-£110

Intake manifold spacer

These spacers will increase the length of the car’s intake runners will increase the speed of the airflow coming in to increase the amount of torque.

Available to buy from: £130

Rear sway bar

The Focus ST is already a speedy, powerful car, but if you want to give it an additional boost, then installing a rear sway bar will increase responsiveness and handling.

Available to buy from: £120-£180

Air filter

A performance air filter is likely to last much longer than the stock filter that came with the vehicle. It also allows for air to flow through both the top and sides instead of just airflow through the sides. This will make it more likely to hear the turbo building up as well.

Available to buy from £50

Front air scoop

With this modification, the air coming in will be cooler, which will increase bother power and efficiency.

Available to buy from: £150
